From a typical household electricity consumption per annum given by Ofgem, 36.2GWp is sufficient electricity to power more than 13.4 million homes in the United Kingdom; this is nearly half of the 26.4 million homes in England and Wales combined. JA Solar currently has more than 32,500 employees and has operations in at least eight countries; In 2022, the operating revenue of JA Solar was USD $10.7 billion ($8.43 billion) – with at least a 68% market share in the UK and 23% in Europe. Its product portfolio comprises high performance PV modules such as DeepBlue 4.0/3.0, PV manufacturing materials and storage batteries.
TW-Solar, from the Tongwei Group – China, continues to dominate the industry as the largest solar panel producer globally. TW-Solar also succeeded to post record enterprise-wide modules sales of 38.1GW in 2022, far outstripping Trina Solar and achieving USD $20.57 billion (approx. £16.20 billion) annual revenue. Global staffs exceed 50000 and the company is the largest in-house producer of polycrystalline silicon in the world. It also aims at increasing its annual manufacturing capability from 80GWp up to 150 GWp by the year 2025. Specifically, in August 2023 Tongwei Group joined Fortune Global 500 list of the largest companies for the first time and, as for March 2024, it is the only solar company being on the list.
Based on the data given above, the eight largest solar panel producers around the world are predominantly (but not solely) Chinese. Leading the pack is Tongwei Solar, which has exported 38.1GWp in 2022, seconded by JA Solar, AIKO, LONGi, JinkoSolar, Canadian Solar and Trina Solar.
